Over the past few weeks there have also been some superb performances from the club’s veteran athletes.
Biggleswade AC hosted the Bedfordshire AAAs Track & Field Open last Saturday 28th March and, although the weather was not very obliging, with strong winds and the occasional rain shower causing a few problems for both the athletes and the officials, it was still a very successful day with Deborah Willis from Notts/Warwick University breaking the stadium record in the 400m hurdles and Jonathan Tilt, from Southampton AC, who was using the event in an attempt to qualify for the IAAF World Masters Championships in Beijing later this year.
It was also an opportunity for Biggleswade AC athletes to compete on home turf and, judging by the number of new personal best times, this track and field season is going to be one of the club’s best.
Ethan Metcalfe and Georgia Smith both had comfortable wins in the 100m, and making a comeback from injury, Michael Blunt finished 1st in the 800m with a new season’s best time. There was also success off the track with Christopher Forster, Dan Steel , Nathan Dodds and Sarah Ridley all finishing ahead of their rivals in the high jump, pole vault, shot put and javelin – a testimony to the Biggleswade AC coaches who have spent many hours with the athletes, perfecting their techniques.
