Runners in training for the Sandy 10

Runners at last year’s Sandy 10

Record numbers of local runners have signed up to run this year’s Sandy 10 road race on Sunday 10th April 2016.

With less than a month to go, expect to see more local people than ever pounding the streets of Biggleswade and Sandy in preparation for this year’s race.

Now in its 33rd year, the Sandy 10 Road Race has grown in stature since it first began in 1983 and is now considered the premier 10 mile road race in the region, attracting athletes from as far afield as Aberdeen, Birmingham, Tyne & Wear and Bridlington in North Yorkshire.

But it’s not just the elite athletes who will be enjoying the scenic route from Sandy to Everton. In addition to the 3 mile fun run for younger people, the main field includes runners of all ages and abilities – from 18 to one runner who is aged over 80 and still enjoying the sport.

Without the support and sponsorship of local businesses, the race would not happen. Jan Blake, Race Director of the Sandy 10, said: “We are grateful to all our sponsors who make the race possible, including Marshalls of Sandy, who provide the race t-shirts, The Barns Fitness Studios, Potton, for the donation of prizes, and especially to Sue Ryder St John’s at Moggerhanger, who we have supported, now, for eight years, and with whom it is great to be working once again. We know how important it is to keep fundraising for the hospice and many of us have experienced the work they do.”

Places in this year’s race are selling out fast, with fewer than 100 left at the time of going to press.
